Select DAC chip
Select the DAC chip that defines the core behavior and sound of your system. Typical options include modern delta-sigma CS4398, AK4490R, PCM1794A and classic multibit TDA1387

Select DAC board
Select a DAC board from the available families and revisions. Boards within the same revision are compatible and can be swapped

Select power supply
Select a steady linear transformer-based power supply compatible with your DAC board. Each DAC project page provides recommended power supply options

Select audio interface
Select a digital audio input interface for your DAC. Many designs support direct S/PDIF input. If your source already provides a compatible digital signal, an additional USB-I2S interface may not be necessary

Select enclosure
Design or select an enclosure for your DAC system. Sheet metal cases and front panel designs are available, allowing different materials such as transparent plastic or solid wood

Build and listen

If you prefer not to build the device yourself, a ready-built version may be available
